Optional packages that enhance PeerSync's operation

ByteReplicator

  • ByteReplicator is an option (for PeerSync Workstation and PeerSync Server) that allows you to transfer just the changed data in a file when synchronising, instead of the entire file.
  • Byte-Level Replication can be beneficial when trying to synchronise large files where only a small amount of data has changed, or when there is a slow connection between the source machine and target machine.

ByteReplicator allows PeerSync to send byte level changes from the source machine to the target machine without sending the entire file. A "Remote Connection License" is required for each target machine receiving byte level changes. The PeerSync application is installed on the source machine A, and a small application, PSListener (required to support ByteReplicator options), is installed on the target machine B (C, D, etc). If a file on the source is changed, PeerSync sends just the changed segments of the file to the corresponding targets.

ByteReplicator options are not available when using FTP, and can only be used to targets where PSListener is installed (PSListener runs on Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/2003/2008).

Enhanced Package
This package for PeerSync Workstation and PeerSync Server and includes:

Remote Display Utility - The Remote Display Utility allows you to monitor PeerSync running as a service on the local machine and/or any instances of PeerSync running on machines on a network.

Alternate/Additional Target Path Selection - Jobs can have alternate or additional target paths associated with the base source/target pair. This allows data flows to be redirected on a failed connection and/or the easy setup of one-to-many scenarios for distribution purposes.

Job Group Panes - Similar to Microsoft's Multiple Document Interface (MDI), PeerSync now contains a multi-pane interface that allows the user to organise groups of jobs (source and target pairs) by any convention necessary. User-specified tab controls allow quick transition from one group to another. The traditional filter list interface is still available for those who do not need the group panes.

Additional features:

  • Maximum Time Setting: Allows you to set the maximum time a job is allowed to run, and to stop a file synchronisation job after a specified number of minutes.
  • Binary Comparison uses CRC: Performs a more in-depth file comparison to give you added assurance that files are in fact the same.
  • File Recovery: This allows PeerSync Server to resume file transfer where it left off if network or system failure occurs.
  • Interface to SNMP Reporting: If you want to integrate PeerSync into your current SNMP monitoring and reporting system, you can establish SNMP traps from within PeerSync.
  • Time Zone Feature: This allows PeerSync to automatically determine time differences between machines being synchronised and automatically compensate for those differences during the comparison of files.
  • Target File Time Change: This option allows you to apply a time delta change to files upon successful synchronisation.

Embedded Open File Manager
EOFM is an option (for PeerSync Workstation and PeerSync Server) that allows you to access locked files using the Embedded Open File Manager. The "Embedded Open File Manager (EOFM)" allows PeerSync to access locked files using the EOFM feature of Windows platforms. PeerSync has to be installed on the machine where locked data resides. If a file on the source is changed, PeerSync sends just the changed segments of the file to the corresponding targets.

  • Allows PeerSync to access locked source files for complete backup to selected target folders.
  • Backup files used by MS Outlook (.pst) while Outlook is in use.
  • Backup QuickBooks, or Quicken files in the background without user intervention.
  • Automatically backup any active database file, such as Exchange and SQL, without disrupting normal operations.

Limitations:

  • EOFM cannot overwrite target files that are opened or in use and will not merge changes from one database to another.
  • EOFM will not merge record changes between different MS Outlook sessions.
  • EOFM cannot run in real-time mode.
  • If PeerSync Server is set to run in real-time, changes requiring EOFM for access will be queued to run on a two-hour interval by default (30 minutes minimum).

Volume Shadow Copy
VSS is an option (for PeerSync Workstation and PeerSync Server) that allows you to access locked files using the Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service. The "Volume Shadow Copy (VSS)" allows PeerSync to access locked files using the VSS feature of Windows Platforms. PeerSync has to be installed on the machine where locked data resides. If a file on the source is changed, PeerSync sends just the changed segments of the file to the corresponding targets.

VSS permits:

  • Allows PeerSync to access locked source files for complete backup to selected target folders.
  • Backup files used by MS Outlook (.pst) while Outlook is in use.
  • Backup QuickBooks, or Quicken files in the background without user intervention.
  • Automatically backup any active database file, such as Exchange and SQL, without disrupting normal operations.

Limitations

  • VSS cannot overwrite target files that are opened or in use and will not merge changes from one database to another.
  • VSS will not merge record changes between different MS Outlook sessions.
  • VSS cannot run in real-time mode.
  • If PeerSync Server is set to run in real-time, changes requiring VSS for access will be queued to run on a two-hour interval by default (30 minutes minimum).
  • Only runs on Windows 2003/2008/XP/Vista based systems

TCP WAN Connector
TCP WAN Connector is an option (for PeerSync Workstation and PeerSync Server) that allows for file transfer between a local or network shared machine and a remote device.

  • TCP can be beneficial when trying to synchronise to a location over the internet.

Note: We strongly recommend the use of a VPN when transferring files over the public internet for security purposes. Otherwise, you should use our Encryption feature with a user name and password to protect data and all communication as it is being transferred.

The "TCP" option requires the installation of the PSListener Agent on the remote device. This option is simply turned on for the existing PeerSync base License.

Multi-Threading

  • Multi-Threading is an option (for PeerSync Server) that allows you parallel process file transfers between your source machine(s) and your target machine(s).
  • Multi-Threading can be beneficial when trying to synchronise large number of files/folders minimising the time it takes for the files to reach the targets. This option is recommended when running in a Collaboration, Distribution and Backup of machines containing large number of folders/files.

The "Multi-Threading" option does not require an additional application for either the source or the target machines. This option is simply turned on for the existing PeerSync base license.

The "Multi-Threading" option gives you:

  • Multiple Job Threads for parallel processing of jobs - this powerful feature enables both a significant increase in performance, as well as the ability to scale. Instead of running one job after another sequentially, this capability uses the full power of the operating system to start and run multiple jobs simultaneously. For example, if you were distributing software updates from one server to a hundred other servers, instead of transferring the files to one server at a time, you can initiate 100 threads at the same time, considerably speeding up the entire process.
  • Multiple Copy Threads - for parallel processing of file operations (i.e. file synchronisation, file deletion, file move, etc.)

Enhanced Scanning
Enhanced Scanning is an option (for PeerSync Server) that works in conjunction with the Multi-Threading feature by further using the multiple job and copy threads feature to shorten the time of completion of a specific job scan. With this feature individual jobs will be dynamically split into sub-jobs for more efficient scanning and improved performance.

Enhanced Scanning (for Multi-Threading) can be beneficial when trying to synchronise large number of files/folders further minimising the time it takes for the files to reach the targets. This option is recommended when running in a Collaboration, Distribution and Backup of machines containing large number of folders/files or part of a scenario with larger number of machines. The "Enhanced Scanning" option does not require an additional application for either the source or the target machines. This option is simply turned on for the existing PeerSync base license. To be able to use this option your PeerSync license must have the Multi-Threading feature also enabled.

Key Features

  • Enhanced Scanning - this powerful feature dynamically builds multiple sub Jobs from each job in a profile for parallel processing of folder scans, shortening the time of completion for scanning and improving performance.
  • Runs on Windows 2000/2003/2008/XP/Vista

File Transfer Protocol

  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is an option (for PeerSync Server) that allows file transfers between a local, or network shared machine, and an FTP machine.
  • FTP can be beneficial when trying to synchronise to a location where network shared access is not available.

The "FTP" option does not require any additional installations. This option is simply turned on for the existing PeerSync base License.

Runs on Windows Server 2000/2003/2008.
